Rain Rain go away !!

About 2 years ago I was asked by one of my neighbors if I was interested in watching her children in the mornings since she and her husband have to leave to work by 7am and the kids dont have to be in school until 8:30-9am. I said yes right away because it sounded like an easy job. I am basically a nanny, and I love every moment of it! it does get challenging at times but that's life! These children that I spend every morning with are so sweet and loving. When I walk into the house in the mornings i usually greeted with a bigggg huggg! but this morning was different when I walked in this morning Stacey told me that the kids were still sleeping so I knew that today was going to be a rough day! plus it was raining. Stacey told me all that I needed to do and what was already done for the kids, she showed me the papers that needed to go to each teacher and then she was off to work. Around 7:30am I woke up both children, Abby and Dylan, with a friendly hello and saying "Its the first day of school, wake upppp!!!" they weren't as excited as I was trying to be at 7:30am Abby started to cry right away, and she was yelling for her mommy but little Dylan was right by her side telling her she was going to have so much fun in school today. It was very sweet!  Dylan was my little helper this morning he helped me make breakfast for himself and for his sister. Abby was not having it this morning, she was going into a new school today so she was really scared and wanted her mommy. I tried my best to keep her relaxed but she wanted nothing to do with me this morning. I finally was able to get her attention when i asked her if she wanted me to paint her nails for the first day of school. SHE LOVED IT and it made her stop the crying. Finally some peace and quiet. Around 8am is the time when i like to get the kids dressed and ready for the day so we can leave the house by 8:30am. After I dropped the kids off I go home and get myself ready for class then off i am to Caldwell.

  1. Dear Nicole, WOW!!!!This sounds like a very busy morning for you. Now you have a sense of what working moms go through before they get to work................looking all perky and pretty!!! It is extremely difficult to juggle two jobs, motherhood and professional life, despite what those women say. However, once the young ones get into the routine it gets a little easier.

It would appear that you used some of what you learned in your psychology class in order to get Abby to accept the fact that she was facing a new adventure. Congratulations. I am interested to know how the next day went. Kepp me posted as to Abby's adjustment to school. all the best to you in your new job . Dr. Ries
